Image Toning

Create more depth in your images with a split toning effect.  Similar to sepia, but could be creative with it as well.

  1. Channels Pallet - choose the image that matches closest with the original, select all and copy.
  2. Layers Pallet - new layer and paste
  3. Add contrast to the new layer
    1. curves
    2. levels - bring the darks and lights in to the center
  4. Select original image layer and ctrl + alt + ~  to select the highlights and inverse selection to select shadows
  5. Add ‘Solid color…’ adjustment layer, choose a dark brown sepia color, mode to multiply
  6. Select original image, select highlights
  7. Add ‘Solid color…’ adjustment layer, choose a lighter brown color, mode to screen
  8. Tweak solid color adjustment layers by double clicking on the colors in the layer pallet
  9. New layer, merge to the layer and sharpen the image.

  1. Dodge tool about 5% - Dodge the whites of the eyes a few times, make sure it is not too dramatic.

Realistic Cast Shadow

  1. Duplicate Layer [ctrl + J]
  2. Free Transform [ctrl + T]
    • hold ctrl key while transforming and drag a little longer and down to the left or right, be creative this is just a tip. Try shorter for a light that is more directly above.
  3. On the Layers Pallet click the “Lock: ‘checkerboard’” (Lock Transparency), the first one.
