Dust n’ Scratches

Have a photo with some dust or maybe some scratches? Want to get rid of them? Here are two solutions, depending on the image one maybe faster or produce a better quality image. Take some time to expirement to find what works best in different situations.

  1. Take a snapshot in the ‘History’ pallet. (the camera icon)
  2. Dust n’ Scratches Filter (an alternative would be to use the Gaussian Blur Filter)
  3. Take another snapshot
  4. Decided if you want to “Paint Away Dust and Scratches” or “Paint Back Detail”
    • Paint Away Dust and Scratches
      1. Click the art history check box of the first snapshot (Before the filter).
      2. Art History Brush with the blending mode set on:
        • ‘lighten’ for dark spots
        • ‘darken’ for light spots
      3. Paint away the scratches and dust.
    • Paint Back Detail
      1. The image at this point may be satisfactory to your needs.
      2. Click the art history check box of the second snapshot (After the filter).
      3. Art History Brush with the blending mode set on:
        • ‘lighten’ for light spots
        • ‘darken’ for dark spots
      4. Paint back some of the lost detail.
